Farm Holidays at Grey Alders

Grey Alders (that's an English translation of our Welsh name, Wernlwyd) is a family farm nestling in the tranquil, rolling Carmarthenshire hills.

With its rich heritage and beautiful surroundings, South-West Wales has a feast of attractions for the whole family to enjoy.

Grey Alders lies just 14 miles north-west of Carmarthen, fifteen minutes from the A40 dual carriageway.

A farm holiday or weekend break at Grey Alders is a great way to  experience rural life.

There are some lovely walks around Grey Alders, over countryside and country lanes.  You can explore our Celtic Christian heritage, do some birdwatching, visit the beaches and attractions or just relax!

Cosy Accommodation

Our sustainably-built highly-insulated timber-framed farmhouse has been thoughtfully designed to make as near as possible a zero-carbon impact on the environment. A micro-generation scheme provides power to the whole farm, and you have an opportunity to see the solar technology in action. The farmhouse may be heated by an under-floor system powered by an air-source heat pump. But these days we rely more on our wood-burning stove!

The farmhouse has one double and one twin bedroom let on a bed-and-breakfast basis.  Both are en-suite with tea-&-coffee-making facilities. You can book an evening meal with us or choose from the local high-quality, low-cost eateries for evening meals.

We also have four self-catering mobile homes with fabulous views so if you are a young family or a small group you can be easily accommodated.

In addition, we have a video-recording studio set up for recording piece-to-camera or interview videos.  The Studio also doubles as a conference room and place of worship.

Countryside, heritage and wildlife

Grey Alders has a stunning countryside location with fields and superb views to the west and north, right across to the distant Preseli Mountains in Pembrokeshire. Enjoy amazing sunsets as the sun sinks behind the hills. Visit quaint fishing villages, castles and churches and explore the rich heritage of South West Wales.

Bird watchers will be in their element. Apart from the usual crows, magpies, robins, blackbirds and house sparrows, we have noted raven, buzzard, red kite, migrating geese, pied and yellow wagtail, chaffinch, goldfinch and bullfinch, swallow and house martin, blue tit, coal tit and great tit, lark, meadow pipit, plover, jay, woodpecker, ducks and heron on the pond, hobby speeding through the bushes, thrush, dunnock and wren. The experienced eye will no doubt amaze us with many more.

Super-Aged Beef and Mutton

Grey Alders is also quickly gaining a reputation for flavour-packed super-aged beef and mutton.  We hang our mutton in the chiller for 35 days and our beef for 56 days.  Our meat is all grass-fed and dry-aged.  We sell our meat in the local farmers' markets and our on-site and online farm shop.  Guests and visitors can take our meat home!  We also make our own sustainable soap from beef tallow and brew our Tafod Teilo dry farm cider.  We deliver locally and can post smaller items and send frozen meat by courier.
